FUNAI ELECTRIC and the BOSTON RED SOX announce a Partnership Agreement for the U.S./Japan Youth Exchange

On February 17, 2014, Funai Electric Co., Ltd. (Hereinafter :”Funai Electric”, Headquarters: Daito, Osaka; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Uemura), announced they have signed a partnership agreement with the major league U. S. baseball team the Boston Red Sox. Funai Electric has also made a charitable contribution to the U.S./Japan Youth Baseball Exchange program.

Pitchers Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa who greatly contributed to the last championship for the Red Sox, attracted tremendous media attention in Japan as well as the United States.
A large contingent of Japanese media is expected to cover these pitchers.

By entering this new partnership agreement, Funai Electric and the Boston Red Sox expect to establish and increase recognition for their corporate brand name in both Japan and the United States.

1. A charitable contribution of U.S./Japan Youth Baseball Exchange program
Twelve Japanese boys will visit Boston for 12 days (date to be determined). The program allows children from Japan and the U.S to visit each other’s homelands and explore their customs and culture through their shared love of baseball. A friendly match with local youth baseball teams will be held this summer. Funai Electric was the presenting sponsor of this event for five years (from 2008-2012) as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

2. The Partnership Agreement
The Funai logo will be displayed on the signboard at the spring training camp, the background board that will be used for interviews with the media and the bottom signboard of the back-net at Fenway Park. Funai will also be advertising in the Boston Red Sox magazine.
